The bimonthly journal “Inżynieria Materiałowa Materials Engineering” has been published continually since September 1980 as “Inżynieria Materiałowa” and since January 2016 as “Inżynieria Materiałowa Materials Engineering”. This periodical presents scientific and technical aspects of design, manufacturing, research, selection and usage of materials, such as metals, ceramics, polymers and composites. The journal promotes and propagates domestic and global achievements in the development of advanced materials and technologies, including modern iron and non-iron metals alloys, intermetallic alloys, biomaterials, composites, layered materials, surface engineering, and nano- and gradient materials. Moreover, the journal disseminates research on modern methods of chemical composition, structure, and materials’ properties. “Inżynieria Materiałowa Materials Engineering” emphasizes issues surrounding the selection of materials for specific applications. The journal widely disseminates the use of informatics and computer techniques for materials research and modelling of effects occurring in technological processes and structure affecting processes. Initially, “Inżynieria Materiałowa Materials Engineering” was a forum for presenting and promoting domestic materials’ research results, completed within central research programs. Later, results of international research and of course/training programs also began to be presented. Over the course of its forty-year existence, “Inżynieria Materiałowa Materials Engineering” has constantly improved its content and editorial form. In 1996, the Polish Society of Materials (PTM), which brings together the most important Polish scientists and experts in materials science, took over scientific oversight of the journal, and the members of the PTM are presently responsible for the profile and content of published articles. Until 2015, articles were published in Polish or English, with abstracts in both languages. However, since 2016, they began to be published in English with a shortened version in Polish. The profile and development direction of “Inżynieria Materiałowa Materials Engineering” also aids in integrating three sectors – science facilities, research centers and industry branches manufacturing materials. The journal is a valued teaching resource for students and Ph.D. students, as well as for engineers who want to update their knowledge. Through reviews of textbooks and monographs, the journal contributes to keeping teaching processes and curricula at Polish universities up to date. The journal can be found in Polish scientific and research institutions, libraries, and in an electronic version on the SIGMA-NOT publisher website (electronic archival issues available since 2004), as well as on the imat.polsl.pl website.
